– Experience fun partner movements.
– Unplug and connect to yourself, to other people, to your surroundings.
– Get a great workout in and have fun!
– Explore the edge of your comfort zone.
– Learn how to communicate through sound, touch, space, and with the surrounding environment.
– Learn how to respond vs react.

With today’s technology, go-go-go culture, and crush it attitude, we rarely give ourselves permission to unplug anymore and connect with ourselves, with other human beings, with animals, with nature. Communication tends to be hurried, rushed, limited to text messages and the occasional email, with phone calls and human-human face-to-face communication an event to be celebrated indeed.

In this movement play-shop, you will have the opportunity to unplug from your day to day world and relish in the gift of connection and compassionate communication through movement. Using a variety of partner-based movements, we will explore what it is like to use our voice to communicate clearly, concisely and compassionately — both setting and exploring the edges of our comfort zones and personal interpersonal boundaries. You will be given the opportunity to listen, to hear what your partner is saying without judgement and honor the space that you and he/she find yourself in.

You will experience the gift of using sound, movement, the earth, and space to communicate — to listen and respond to each other, to play, explore, and hold space for both outer and inner exploration of the physical world. The workshop will explore the boundaries of your comfort zone, both physically, mentally, and emotionally.

What if I don’t have any movement experience? Do I need to bring a partner?
No prior movement experience is needed. You do not need to come with a partner. This play-shop is open to practitioners of all levels. All that is asked is that you come with a willingness to explore.

What should I bring?
Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in. Comfortable shoes, or the equivalent. The option to be barefoot is encouraged, though not necessary. A blanket or yoga mat. A journal. Natural bug and tick repellent. Water.

Lower Body Mobility & Injury Prevention for Climbers
Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned climber, preventing and appropriately rehabbing climbing related injuries is a big concern. Building a foundation in the lower body will help provide the stability you need in order to move in an integrated way on the rock without over-compensating with the upper body and/or causing injury.

In this workshop, you will learn and be exposed to mobility, flexibility, strengthening, & soft tissue work tips and tools to actively develop:
– strong, supple ankles that can handle a roll, toe and heel hooks, as well as long crack climbs
– fluid, supple feet that recover well from being stuffed in climbing shoes
– knees that can safely move and support your body in a variety of movements
– balance and strength within the musculature around the knee to rehab and/or prevent tears
– flexible and strong hamstrings that are less likely to tear or pull
– hips that allow for a wide range of motion and support you to move fluidly over your feet
– restoration of glute function from cases of glute amnesia
– a functional core that supports the body and helps to reduce low back pain
– ways to begin to balance and activate the core to provide a platform for the distribution of forces fro the feet through the hands and vice versa

Date: Wed., April 20
Time: 7-9 p.m.
Cost: $20 members/$40 non-members
